Tuna Buns, in the style of '90s bruschetta
Do you guys remember when I/we used to make bruschetta at home and it was the recipe from the D'taliano french bread bag? I think the first time I had bruschetta in a restaurant, I was disappointed because it wasn't this puffy mayo-y thing. Though that wasn't really real bruschetta, it was delicious - and last night I made '90s bruschetta inspired tuna buns.
You'll need:
olive oil
red onion (as much as you want to eat - a little chunk, finely chopped)
red pepper flakes
capers
white wine vinegar
lemon juice
salt and pepper
old bay seasoning or some other kind of seasoning salt
red pepper
tomato
can of tuna
mayo
buns
In bowl mix finely chopped red pepper, about 1 tsp lemon juice, little dash of white wine vinegar, about 1.5 tbsp capers, a couple shakes of old bay seasoning, a bit of salt and lots of pepper. Saute the finely chopped red onions in about 1 tbsp olive oil a saucepan or smaller frying pan. Add red pepper flakes. Turn in the bowl of pepper stuff and saute a couple minutes. Add a bit of chopped tomato - I had about half a tomato - add the tuna and heat through. Add about 1/3 cup or so, of mayo and heat until bubbling.Top toasted buns with it, and then put them under the broiler for a minute or two.
